290 people tested positive for Covid died in hospitals in the Northeast in February

The latest figures show that 290 people tested positive for coronavirus have died in hospitals in the Northeast so far in February.

According to data published by NHS England on Sunday, the highest number of deaths occurred in hospitals in South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust, with a number of 84.

The Trust’s sites include South Tyneside District Hospital and Sunderland Royal Hospital.

This was followed by 75 deaths within the Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, which includes the Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital in Cramlington, and 65 in the County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust.

The figures cover a period between February 1 and February 20, and the NHS England says patients who died in the hospital tested positive for Covid-19.

All deaths are recorded on the date of death and not on the day the deaths were announced.

The organization also says the numbers may change, especially in the past few days, as confirmation of more deaths may be received at a later stage. The numbers for each NHS fund for February can be seen below.

On Sunday, nationwide, an additional 258 people tested positive for coronavirus died in the hospital in England, bringing the total number of confirmed deaths reported in hospitals to 81,304, said the NHS England.

The patients were aged between 29 and 101. All but 17, aged between 52 and 100, had known underlying health conditions. The deaths occurred between December 10 and February 20. There were 31 other deaths reported with no positive Covid-19 test result.
