In the last Disney and Pixar film, Soul, we’ve learned that many have tried and all have failed to help mentor 22 – and that includes one of Marvel’s own!
If you were paying attention during the film, when 22 (Tina Fey) brings Joe (Jamie Foxx) back to his current residence – “Just A Box” – the two pass through a wall full of thousands of different mentor badges that 22 had over the years. They range from Copernicus to Marie Antoinette and Muhammad Ali, and if you look closely, you might even see Jack Kirby among them too! Find the right moment at the 29 minute mark of the movie.
Kirby is a legend of comics and one of the architects of the cheerful Marvel Universe, with an almost unparalleled influence on the Multiverse. He created dozens of different characters, costumes and worlds, touching Marvel’s first family – the Fantastic Four – and gave readers a new hero with Captain America. Kirby’s decades-long career has built a legacy that continues today and he served as a fundamental pioneer behind the House of Ideas.
But dealing with 22 and trying to find your “spark”? Eh … maybe not so much.
