Famous voice actress Zendaya is expected to voice Lola Bunny next Space Jam sequel, Space Jam: a new legacy. The film’s official Twitter account confirmed the news on Saturday afternoon, tweeting, “Welcome to Jam, @Zendaya.” Lola Bunny is, of course, Bugs Bunny’s girlfriend, and also the subject of controversy earlier this year, when her new character design was met with reactions by social media users. Director Malcolm D. Lee said Weekly entertainment in March that the redesign came as a result of a reconsideration of the original Space Jam film. “Lola was not politically correct,” said Lee of Lola, from 1996. “This is a children’s film, why is she in a top crop? It seemed unnecessary, but at the same time there is a long history of that in cartoons. Lee went on to explain that he wanted Lola’s most recent iteration “to reflect the authenticity of strong and capable female characters.” If anyone has the talent to perform this task, it is Zendaya.
