Zack Snyder’s Justice League sequels and derivatives are allegedly not part of the future DC Films

Although WarnerMedia and HBO Max play millions in Zack Snyder’s Justice League, the project is shaping up to be a unique case, at least for now. Sunday morning, the New York Times shared the profile of the head of DC Filmes, Walter Hamada, where the producer exposed his company’s plans for the near future. Visibly absent from the plans are any accompaniments to the Justice League Snyder Cut, either in the form of strings or spinoffs.

In fact, the Times profile describes the project as a “dead end to tell stories”, going so far as to suggest that Snyder no longer has a place in the future of DC Films. “At least for now, Mr. Snyder is not part of the new DC Films project, with studio executives describing his HBO Max project as a dead end for storytelling – a street that leads nowhere,” Times’ Brooks Barnes writes.

That future, says Hamada, is an expanding cinematic multiverse where filmmakers can use characters from whatever timeline their story requires.

The Snyder cut officially received the go-ahead earlier this year, after a years-long campaign. Snyder and Warner Brothers initially clashed over their vision for the film, which the studio considered too bleak.

“The truth is that the ‘Knightmare Sequence’ in this film, it was my idea that all of this would eventually be explained – is that a surprise? And that we would end up in the distant future, where Darkseid took control of Earth, and where Superman succumbed to Anti-Life [Equation], “Snyder said about the provocation last year.” And there were some members of the Justice League who survived that world, and who were fighting, Batman and a broken half of Cyborg – there’s only half of him because of whatever happened – they were working on an equation to go back and tell the Bruce … those were the things we were dealing with. And the studio, they still liked to look great, but the depth on how and why everyone was mad at each other … “

Zack Snyder’s Justice League will arrive at HBO Max in March 2021.
