Zach Wilson and Kyle Trask declare for the 2021 draft of the NFL

The 49ers could be in the market for a quarterback in this year’s draft and two of the top possible quarterbacks have officially declared.

Kyle Trask, of Florida, declared on December 31, and Zach Wilson, of BYU, declared the following day. Both players were expected to enter this year’s draft after strong seasons. Trask is a senior, while Wilson will leave school after his first year.

Wilson is likely to be a potential customer with a higher ranking by many teams. Some analysts consider it the second best QB, behind Trevor Lawrence de Clemson. Wilson this season completed 73.4 percent of his shots for 3,699 yards and 33 touchdowns. He launched only three interceptions during the entire season and averaged 11.0 yards per attempt.

Trask ended his college career with a thud. After a very good senior campaign, where he posted a 68.9 percent completion rate, 4,283 yards, 43 touchdown passes and eight interceptions, he fought Florida’s 55-20 Cotton Bowl defeat to Oklahoma. He made 16 of 28 for 153 yards and three interceptions. Its larger body of work should boost its draft stock a little, but its poor performance on the national stage will not help.

The 49ers plan in the center is their biggest off-season story. Whether they do it early or wait until the 2nd or 3rd, it seems likely that San Francisco will draft a quarterback this year with Nick Mullens and CJ Beathard, both defined as free agency.
