YouTube suspends Giuliani from the partner program, cutting access to ad revenue

YouTube said on Tuesday that it suspended Rudy Giuliani, a lawyer for former President Donald Trump, from a program that allows partners to make money from ads on their videos after Giuliani broke YouTube’s rules by repeatedly sharing wrong election information.

The suspension will last at least 30 days and has been in effect since last week, YouTube said in an email.

The YouTube Partner Program allows video creators to share ad revenue and receive support from a company team, but channels that violate company policies can be removed.

Giuliani, a former New York City mayor, is a staunch supporter of baseless allegations of widespread fraud in the presidential election. At a series of press conferences and court hearings after the election, his team presented allegations of electoral fraud that had already been unmasked.

Legal experts have criticized Giuliani’s electoral challenges as an embarrassment based on baseless allegations.

YouTube policies prohibit content that claims that “widespread fraud or error has changed the outcome of a historic US presidential election”, although it has allowed “discussion of election results” even when it was based on denied information.

Giuliani can appeal his suspension on YouTube or re-enroll in the Partner Program in 30 days if he resolves the underlying issues, the company said.

Giuliani did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Tuesday.

On Monday, Giuliani was sued for defamation by Dominion Voting Systems, a maker of electoral equipment and the target of many conspiracy theories promoted by Trump and his allies. The company said its reputation was damaged by a “big lie” spread by Giuliani.

Giuliani said he would investigate a counter-suit against Dominion, which he accused of intimidation and censorship.
