Although we are doing well for the new year, YouTube Music seems to be making another attempt to give users a Year 2020 Review. Hopefully, this iteration will be widely implemented.
Google’s streaming service was first seen testing a “Year in Review” playlist of its best songs in November. It was widely released in early December with other genre compilations. A week later, some users started to receive a “Your musical journey for 2020” with some statistics.
Sent via email, this is what subscribers really wanted from YouTube Music. However, this competitor for Spotify Wrapped and Apple Music Replay was not widely released, especially after January closed and February began.
Some members of YouTube Music are now seeing a “year in review” on the Android app. If you are live, you can tap on your profile avatar in the upper right corner to find the back icon in the account menu between “History” and “Paid subscriptions”.
This ‘2020 Year in Review’ is a kind of home mini feed with four classified carousels. The “My 2020 Year in Review” playlist is at the front and in the center, while Google notes how many hours you’ve heard and plays counts for individual tracks.
- My top playlists
- My best songs
- My best albums
- My best artists
In terms of information, it is almost on the same level as the email that some customers received at the end of last year, but it lacks some aggregate statistics, including how many songs you heard, total hours and month of best listening. That said, it offers a much more interactive experience and is ideal for sharing via screenshots.
As the first recap, this 2020 Review was not widely circulated at the moment, but YouTube Music is probably opting for this approach instead of continuing emails.
