You won’t hear Shane Beamer destroying Clemson football or Dabo Swinney

The last two coaches from South Carolina had no problem kicking Clemson football, but things can be a little different with Gamecocks’ new head coach.

Steve Spurrier has always been the type of coach who makes sharp jokes in the direction of his rival and during a five-year streak in which he was winning Clemson football and taking his program to the top 10 and even the top 5, he had no problems mock Tigers and heat up rivalry.

Of course, Clemson finally got the best of Spurrier and his lack of recruitment reached them, causing him to finally give up on the team in the middle of the season.

After ending that rotten 2015 season in which Clemson played for the National Championship, the Gamecocks went after another big name in the hope of somehow returning to the Spurrier years.

Although he never had any success as a Spurrier, Will Muschamp also did not mind giving sharp shots to the Tigers. Now, the Gamecocks have switched to another trainer – this time Shane Beamer – in hopes of reversing their pathetic program.

Although Beamer is not immune to the small talk that comes with a rivalry, he will not bid classlessly in Clemson football

As with any rivalry, Beamer will have moments when he throws or makes a competitive comment. He has often referred to Clemson as “that country team” since taking over, but there is no doubt that his respect for Dabo Swinney will go a long way in what he says.

“I have a very strong relationship with Dabo Swinney,” said Beamer in an interview with DawgNation. “In fact, he was one of the first people to come to me when I got this job. We’ve talked two or three times since then. “We are competitors. We are rivals. But he is the same person – he was Clemson’s recruiting coordinator when I was in South Carolina as (an assistant coach). We kind of got to know each other during that time. “

Beamer also said he respects Swinney as a person and a football coach and, although he hopes to make the rivalry competitive, there is still a certain level of friendship between the two coaches.

“(Swinney) is a genuinely good person,” said Beamer. “Yes, we are rivals and competitors and we will try to defeat each other’s brains on the football field and all that, but you can still be grateful for where you are and treat people the right way and he has been very good to me since that I started this work, for sure. “

Several times during Will Muschamp’s career he shot Clemson in an unsubstantiated way and they looked like jealousy, conspiracy, ill will or a mixture of all these things.

This will not be the case for Beamer, and this is probably a smart move for him as he tries to build the Gamecock program.

No one can deny that Clemson and South Carolina are at different levels. Gamecocks are struggling to be eligible for the bowl and Tigers are competing for the National Championship. They are not the same.

The best thing Beamer can try to do is to maintain a healthy competitive relationship with Swinney, because we all know that things are not going well for coaches who try to do the opposite.

Swinney uses the comments of opposing coaches as fuel – as most coaches across the country do – and he circles the games when there’s someone who chooses to go out of his way to shoot his program – we’re looking at you, Dave Doeren.

Beamer is making the right decision by trying to keep the flame of rivalry as tiny as possible and he can always expect him to sneak up on Clemson at some point and leave with a win, because we all know Spurrier-style trash work.
