YONKERS, Westchester County (WABC) – Yonkers police now say five people have died after a violent two-car accident that split one of the vehicles in half.

One of the cars was so badly damaged that it was split in half.

Surveillance video from a nearby gas station shows, at the top of the screen, the moment of collision.

A resident described the horrific scene.

“I heard a very loud noise. Unusual. I’ve never seen anything worse. So I went to the window because I live nearby and I see a guy running and saying ” Oh my God, oh my God! ””, Says Maria Delgado. “I get dressed and get out and the car is divided into two parts with dead bodies on one side and on this side … and the white car opposite how it came.”

Five people, including four sitting in one of the cars, were killed. Two were pronounced dead at the scene.

Several other people were taken to the hospital. The extent of the other damages was not immediately clear.

Riverdale Avenue was shut down for more than eight hours as police worked to determine exactly what led to the crash.

Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano was on site overnight, talking to investigators and investigating the damage.

Neighbors say speeding has been a problem on this wide-open avenue.

“I get very nervous because I drive and I live here,” says Maria Delgado. “I pass this street many times, but I always look ….” The roads are very good, you know, there are lines and everything. There should not be so many accidents. People drive ruthlessly. “
