TAMPA – Luke Voit gave a brief fright in third place in the Yankees’ 6-1 win over the Phillies at the BayCare Ballpark in Clearwater, Florida. After being scratched on Tuesday due to pain in his right knee, DH tried to advance to third on Clint Frazier’s aerial ball to the left, but was expelled by Andrew McCutchen. He seemed to have left the field with caution, but he stayed in the game and looked good when he executed the ball on the floor at the end of the game.
“He’s feeling great,” said Aaron Boone. “It’s not a very clever tag-up for a second. He really just wanted to test it and he felt he was feeling good and he said he was feeling good [afterwards]. I hope we have a better decision in the regular season. “
Voit will not play Friday against Tigers on a planned day off.
Although Giancarlo Stanton looks good on the board, Boone said there are still no plans to test him on the field – although he has not ruled out the possibility.
