Yankees hiring reliever Justin Wilson away from the Mets

The Yankees won the New York battle by veteran appeaser Justin Wilson.

The lefts agreed to a deal with the Yankees on Monday, confirmed Joel Sherman of the Post, after also receiving interest from the Mets.

The terms of the deal, which is pending physical examination, were not immediately clear.

Wilson, 33, has played for the Mets for the past two seasons and spent the 2015 season in the Bronx.

Wilson pitched for an ERA of 2.91 at 58 ² / ₃ innings over his two seasons with the Mets. In what has been a pretty quiet off-season for the Yankees, Wilson joins Darren O’Day as additions to the Yankees’ bullpen. The Yankees negotiated Adam Ottavino and most of his $ 9 million contract with the Red Sox to give up dollars as a free agent.

The Mets bullpen suffered a potentially critical blow with the news that Seth Lugo was closed for six weeks while recovering from surgery to remove a bone spur from his right elbow. The Mets added veterans Mike Montgomery and Tommy Hunter as unscheduled guests for spring training.
