Yankees’ Aaron Judge Makes First Spring Training Home Run

Notes on the Yankees’ defeat in the 13-12 spring training session for the Phillies on Thursday.

Everyone gets up

It took a while, but Aaron Judge managed to hit his first home run of the spring with a first shot that went through the tiki bar on the left against the left-hander Matt Moore. Clint Frazier said the judge hit one in the eye of the hitter at the BayCare Ballpark during batting training. “Being the guy who beats Aaron in hitting is hard to follow.”

Destroyed

Michael King said he “didn’t feel” his pitches and it showed. The right-hand hit three strokes and allowed seven runs in two innings during an exit that saw him removed twice from the innings. Spring training rules allow pitchers to re-enter games to increase their pitch count.

Caught my eye

Former Yankee Didi Gregorius made a fantastic sliding reception in the not-too-shallow center in Giancarlo Stanton’s pop-up at the top of the first. Gregorius had a solid recovery season with the Phillies and Joe Girardi a year ago.

Friday Schedule

Gerrit Cole will make his last start in the spring when the Yankees host Baltimore at 6:35 pm at the Steinbrenner stadium.
