Plans to convert Yankee Stadium and Citi Field to large-scale coronavirus vaccination sites have been officially postponed indefinitely – while 15 existing vaccination centers in the city will remain closed while New York City continues to struggle against supply shortages, officials said at Monday.
Setbacks are the most recent scams at the launch of the problem-infested vaccine in New York, most recently hampered by a slow supply of vaccines from the federal government and the modern manufacturer – forcing the city to reschedule tens of thousands of consultations when it became clear that it did not. there were plenty of jabs available.
“We want these operations to be fully developed, 24 hours a day, but we don’t have the vaccine,” Mayor Bill de Blasio of Yankee Stadium and Citi Field said during a news conference on Monday.
Hizzoner did not set a new opening date for the locations, instead, he said he was tied to when the city received an ample stock of vaccines to support operations.
Meanwhile, 15 vaccination centers covering all five districts that were closed due to a lack of supplies last week will remain closed until Thursday, Councilman Mark Levine, head of the Council’s Health Committee, revealed in a tweet.
These sites were previously closed last Thursday – provisionally until January 24 – when Moderna’s weekly shipment did not arrive on time. Appointments that have been canceled at the venues are expected to take place this week, starting on Thursday.
The feds’ lack of sufficient vaccines follows previous issues in the state and in the city, including Albany’s costly restrictions on who could get the vaccine and a complicated online registration process that confuses many seniors.
