Inductive wireless charging that works through pads and coils is not yet available everywhere or on all devices, but XDA points out that Xiaomi is taking a leap to the next step: wireless remote charging. “True” wireless charging without touch could power devices several feet away, and Xiaomi is publicizing its approach, dubbed Mi Air Charge Technology.
We have seen remote wireless charging equipment before, including the Energous WattUp approach that we gave the Best of CES award in 2015. However, they have not yet reached the market and, although Xiaomi is not talking about any specifics regarding the release date. or compatible hardware, displaying a demo and talking about the 17 patents it holds is more than we’ve seen from other phone manufacturers.
