Xiaomi launched MIUI 12.5 together with the launch of the flagship Mi 11. The company will release the stable version of the update for its Mi and Redmi phones from April 2021. The system update comes as an improvement over MIUI 12, but there are several notable improvements in MIUI 12.5. The latest version features super wallpapers, new animations and enhanced privacy protection controls. Initially, the stable update will only reach the domestic market in China on the Mi 11, Mi 10 Extreme Commemorative Edition, Mi 10 Pro and Mi 10. models. Other countries and models will have the update later.

MIUI 12.5 promises less power and memory consumption. The live wallpapers from Super-Earth, Super Mars and Super Saturn added via MIUI 12 received additions in the form of Snow Mountain and Geometry wallpapers. According to Xiaomi, they will consume 40% less energy than MIUI 12. Overall, 12.5 updates will consume up to 32% less memory and offer a 17% reduction in energy consumption.

Whenever an application tries to access your data from the clipboard, the device will show a pop-up prompt. MIUI 12.5 also gives users the ability to select to share their approximate location, not their exact location. Both features are similar to those shared through Apple’s iOS 14.

Other improvements include new sound effects, architectural animation and elegant interface effects.

After releasing the update on December 28, Xiaomi also started the registration process to test the MIUI 12.5 beta. This is a closed beta, although the company plans to launch public betas in batches from January onwards. According XiaomiUI telegram channel, only some Redmi and Mi devices are eligible for closed beta. These are Redmi Note 7, Redmi Note 7 Pro, Redmi Note 9, Redmi 10X 5G, Redmi 10X Pro, Redmi K20, Redmi K20 Pro, Redmi K30, Redmi K30 5G, Redmi K30i 5G, Redmi K30 Pro, Redmi K30S Ultra, Redmi K30 Ultra, Mi 9, Mi 9 SE, Mi CC9e, Mi CC9 Pro, Mi 10, Mi 10 Pro, Mi 10 Ultra and Mi 10 Youth Edition.
