Xbox tests a ‘suspend my game’ button to speed up downloads

Beta testers for Xbox software in the Insider program may have a new button appearing in their user interface when downloading games, applications, and updates. For years, players have complained that the download is slow while games are suspended, and the only way to get them close to the maximum possible speed was to manually close all suspended titles.

Then the Xbox Series X introduced Quick Resume, which made it quick and easy to get back to games, but still had the same effect of sometimes slowing downloads. Xbox executives explained that the system managed resources to ensure that multiplayer games had the necessary bandwidth to operate, but the approach was still very aggressive in most cases.

With many games now reaching over 100 GB in size and updates that can be almost as big on their own, it is a real problem, but the Xbox team is close to solving it. How described in this tweet, the “suspend my game” button keeps the game ready to be restarted / restarted quickly, while releasing enough power from the Xbox to manage high-speed downloads.

At the moment, the feature is still being tested with Insiders, but it will likely be widely implemented in the future. One thing that is open to everyone is the ability to access your Achievements through the Xbox app. It was mentioned in the March update notes and is active as of today.
