Xbox Live is down because users can’t log in

Microsoft’s Xbox Live service is inactive, preventing users from joining the service. Xbox Live problems started at around 3:15 PM today, and Microsoft has confirmed that it is investigating the outage. “We are aware that users may not be able to sign in to Xbox Live at this time,” says Xbox support. “Our teams are investigating to correct this problem.”

If you are not yet signed in to Xbox, the sign-in process will fail with an error, preventing access to certain services, such as Xbox Party chat. Some applications may also fail to start without the main Xbox Live services being online, and many games will also not start correctly.

Microsoft marked Xbox Live problems as a “major disruption” on the company’s Xbox status page. The outage also means that services like xCloud cloud games are offline, along with access to multiplayer games.

This is the first major Xbox Live outage since problems occurred during the launch of the Xbox Series X and Series S in November last year. Xbox Live also fell a few times over the course of 2020, especially at the start of the pandemic, when the service faced problems twice a week, when millions began to distance themselves socially.
