Xbox Game Studios presents an update on Age Of Empires IV

Xbox Game Studios would like to quickly remind you that they are still working Age Of Empires IV Three years later. From time to time, since the game was announced in the summer of 2017, we have received a small glimpse of news about it, but nothing really meaningful. As it seems that time was spent mainly on launching Definitive Editions from the previous three games. But closing the year in its own news section, the team decided to give a small update, which you can read on AOE4 part of it below. Although they talk about some of the developments, there is no clear path outlined by the team for when we will see the game.

We are making great progress in Age Of Empires IV. I don’t want to make you jealous, but we are literally playing this game every day – both in Washington and Vancouver.

RTS development is funny: it takes a while to build the separate systems (AI, economy, yes, rendering, etc.), and then it takes a while for them to come together. But when they do, you suddenly have a game – a game that needs debugging, balancing and polishing – but the core of the game that you know you’re going to release. And the best part is that it looks like a Age of Empires games.

Our partners at Relic have been amazing when we migrated home office development and modified (through trial and error) our processes to help facilitate productivity and keep the game on track. So much passion, great developers, artists, designers, narrators, audio experts and the community – not to mention the backbone functions that keep the company running.
