The first chart of February 2021 has these two inevitable culprits in the top positions: Modern Warfare in the first and Black Ops Cold War in the second, with the rest of the top ten reorganizing below, as usual. A little further down, however, the power of the Xbox Game Pass is at work with Bloober Team’s psychological horror game, The Medium, making its first appearance in 15th place. Today, the Bloober team announced that The Medium has sold enough to cover development and marketing costs, despite its launch less than a week ago. Luke thought it was a “unique, but flawed gem” and that while the price may be a little high, at $ 50 / £ 40, it is definitely worth a try if you have an Xbox Game Pass. You can check Luke The Medium’s review for more information. The Xbox Game Pass also spurred another recent release in the top 40, with Cyber Shadow 39th.
Sea of Thieves, meanwhile, moved up two places to 16th. The game’s first season aired a few days ago with three new achievements. The developers have also added a new 120 Hz performance mode to the Xbox Series X consoles. As each season brings a lot of new content, we are likely to see Sea of Thieves climbing further up the charts. Cyberpunk 2077, on the other hand, dropped three places to 17th. More recently, CD Projekt Red released hotfixes to resolve a game-breaking bug that was introduced with the latest patch. CDPR will be working to improve Cyberpunk for some time, so it will be interesting to see where the game will end up on future charts.
There’s a lot of reshuffle going on this week’s chart, with NBA 2K21, Dead by Daylight, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition, PUBG, Battlefield V and Donut County dropping to 25th, 26th, 27th, 28th, 29th and 30th, respectively. This week also brings us three reappearances, all neatly grouped: Division 2 is back at 36, with Fallout 76 at 37 and Fifa 21 at 38. Black Ops III, in turn, fell completely from the top 40, while other disappearances this week include Skate 3, DayZ, For Honor and Injustice 2. Soon, we have Control: Ultimate Edition coming out tomorrow, with Little Nightmares 2 coming later this month, along with any February Xbox Game Pass additions that Microsoft may have up its sleeve. Interestingly, Hitman 3, which was one of the biggest releases in January, has not yet appeared on our Xbox Gameplay Table, although it is growing rapidly in our PlayStation Gameplay Table.
