After launching the FPS Boost feature in February with a handful of games, Microsoft has announced that five more games, all from Bethesda, will soon have FPS Boost support.

This news comes from last episode of The Official Xbox Podcast. In their opening section, Larry “Major Nelson” Hryb of Xbox Live and senior Xbox communications manager Jeff Rubenstein discussed Microsoft’s recent acquisition of Bethesda. To conclude the agreement, a lot of new Bethesda games have been added to the Game Pass. But what made me more excited is that five Bethesda games on the service will soon receive FPS Boost support, a feature that allows older games to run at higher frame rates on Xbox Series X and Series S.

The five games in question are Fallout 4, Fallout 76, Prey, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition, and Dishonored: Definitive Edition.

Something interesting, if you care about these things, is that Fallout 4 was one of the first games we saw using FPS Boost before the new feature has an official name. In a short video offered without much context last October, Microsoft presented Fallout 4 running at 60 frames per second. While Xbox gamers can now use game mod support for similar performance improvements, it will finally be an official feature soon.

Make sure to set the video to 720p60 or 1080p60 to really see the difference.

The podcast did not give a specific date on when to expect this latest crop of games to receive support for FPS Boost. It looks like it can happen when the next major update to the Xbox Series X / S implemented, which will add settings per game, allowing players to switch between Auto HDR and FPS Boost in games that support it.

I checked the FPS Boost recently and came out very impressed. This made older games look more modern and playable without the need for extra mods or downloads. I’m excited to see how something like Fallout 76 will run with FPS Boost, as its performance on consoles is notoriously poor. But now that Fallout 76 it is very good, it would be great to see it working better on the next generation Xbox consoles.
