Xbox cult classic Stubbs the Zombie is being remastered for modern consoles

If you’ve always wanted a zombie game where you play as an undead instead of defending yourself, you’ll have another chance soon. Stubbs, the zombie in rebel without pulse is being re-released on March 16 for PC, PS4, Switch and Xbox One and can be played on PS5 and Xbox Series X / S for backward compatibility.

Aspyr Media, the company that originally published Stubbs the Zombie, is looking after the door. The studio recently worked on portability Star Wars Episode I: Racer for modern consoles, then it’s safe to say that this remastered is in good hands.

Originally released in 2005 on Xbox, Stubbs the Zombie players control the titular character with the main objective of wreaking havoc and devouring human brains. It’s a third-person action title developed by the now defunct Wideload Games. The game also arrived on Windows and Mac OS X about a month after its original release date, with a Steam release coming almost two years later, which was later removed from the platform.

The announcement is good news for fans who played the 2005 original. In recent years, Stubbs the Zombie it has become one of the rarest games on the original Xbox. Microsoft made the game digitally available for the Xbox 360 in 2008 as an Xbox Originals title, but the company pulled it out of the Xbox Live Marketplace in late 2012. With no other ways to play in nearly a decade, its only option was to own a console Original Xbox and a physical copy, which is very expensive.
