If you are building a connected residential space and need some ambient lighting, but don’t want to spend a lot of money, then take a look at the new Wyze lamp color. While we’ve seen controllable color-changing lamps from others, like the Philips Hue and C line from GE / Cync, they can get expensive quickly for $ 50 per lamp and $ 30- $ 35 for a pair, respectively. This customizable Wyze lamp is available for pre-order in a four-pack that costs $ 35, plus $ 8 for UPS ground shipping as soon as it launches in March.
How ZatzNotFunny highlights, this 1,100-lumen smart lamp is brighter than Wyze’s 800-lumen adjustable white lamp. The FAQ explains that they are rated for wet locations, do not need a hub and can be controlled via WiFi or Bluetooth so that they can work even if your Internet connection goes down. The company also plans to launch a two-lamp package in the future, if four is overkill, and in a forum post it indicated that the Wyze control app will receive improvements over the course of 2021.
When these lamps arrive, users can group them with lamps of other colors, control them via Alexa or Google Assistant, choose from 16 million colors, or use other Wyze devices to trigger various script routines. Although the forum thread shows users have been wanting this for some time, Reddit posters seem less impressed as they seek greater reliability and compatibility with the Apple Homekit.
