HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) – The way in which an exclusive WSAZ interview with Vice President Kamala Harris actually took place last Thursday remains a mystery.
“We are in touch with Senator (Joe) Manchin, as we have been doing for many weeks and will continue to move forward,” White House press secretary Jen Psaki said on Monday. “He is not only a key partner of the president and the White House in this package, but also on his agenda, and we will continue to be in close contact with him.”
That was Psaki’s response when asked if the White House had contacted Manchin after our exclusive interview with the vice president and what she had to say about the American Rescue Plan proposal.
On Friday, Manchin told us that the interview took him by surprise and he “couldn’t believe that nobody called him about it”.
Psaki did not say who had spoken to Manchin at the White House after his comments on the vice president’s interview. When specifically asked whether President Biden himself had spoken to the senator, Psaki just said that the White House had maintained contact.
Manchin’s office would also confirm only that the senator spoke to someone in the White House.
