Two people died on Thursday morning in Portland after a driver traveling in the wrong direction caused an accident on Interstate 84, police said.
Police officers responded to reports of a driver driving west on the eastern lanes at about 2:15 am, police said in a statement. Soon afterwards, reports were received of a frontal collision on the highway near Interstate 205 in northeastern Portland.
The first police officers at the scene found that a collision of two vehicles killed two people. None of the victim’s identities have been released.
The eastbound lanes on I-84 were closed on Northeast 68th Avenue, and traffic was being diverted to the surface streets.
The highway has already been reopened.
