OSCEOLA COUNTY, Florida. – In a video that attracted national attention, an Osceola county deputy is seen throwing a student on the floor during an incident at Liberty High School late last month.
The student was identified as Taylor Bracey, 16.

But Tresta Maynard said that what the video doesn’t show is Bracey running to his daughter, Ja’Mara McWhorter, and another girl, Makaileah Sylvester.
“Since she was running at full strength for our daughters, that was when the policeman intervened, and it was only then, that she was knocked down and was running at full strength,” said Maynard.
Now, she and Sylvester’s mother, Aunt Odum, have said they have taken legal action to protect their daughters from Bracey.
Family attorney Nina Patterson said they seek protection from Bracey on and off campus.
Both mothers said that weeks before the incident was captured on video, there was a disturbance in the cafeteria that resulted in a contactless contract being issued to Bracey and both daughters for the school.

But Odum said that Bracey has not fulfilled that.
Both women said they hope it will keep their daughters safe.
“Our kids aren’t always with us, we have 15 year old girls, so you know, they have little meetings, and they meet and go shopping, so I feel like it’s the best thing for our kids’ safety,” Odum said.
“My hope is that it will keep them safe,” said Maynard.
Patterson said the next step in this process is a hearing, where both girls will speak to a judge to see if the injunction passes.
