Wide receiver three stars from Fort Lauderdale (Florida) Dillard Devaughn Mortimer has just announced, via Instagram and Twitter, its commitment to Mike Norvell and the Florida State Seminoles.
Mortimer feels that the ‘Noles can use him in their offensive scheme and he thinks he can help FSU to win some victories in the years to come. He decided to promise his services to the ‘Noles for these reasons.
“I felt that FSU is the school that can use me,” he said of the reason for his commitment to FSU. “They can use me in the right way. They offered me and they know that I can be a high priority in their attack and in their team and help them to win ”.
Since the Seminoles offered the 5-foot-11 and 160 pound wideout, they are in constant communication, checking on Mortimer every day.
“They called me every morning,” he said of FSU’s communication. “Checking me in and making sure I was in control. Stay in touch and make sure I’m on the right track. “
Mortimer grew up watching and rooting for ‘Noles. He describes his ability to dress in Garnet and Gold as surreal.
“It means a lot,” he said of being able to play for FSU. “I can really play for a school that I always dreamed of playing when I was a kid.”
Newly hired director of relations at FSU College, Ryan Bartow, played a big role in transporting Mortimer to the state of Florida.
“My relationship with him was very good,” said Mortimer of Bartow. “He texted me on Twitter every day, seeing how everything was going with me. We even talked about who has the best dance moves.”
Mortimer checks in as player # 604 and wide receiver # 76 in the country, according to 247 Sports Composite classifications.
Mortimer had first team selections from both Sun Sentinel and Miami Herald All-Broward 8A-6A. In the 2020 football season, he managed 24 passes for 318 yards and five touchdowns for a 6-0 Dillard team that won a Class 6A-1A three-county gold championship after dropping out of the state’s FHSAA playoffs. His biggest impact came on special teams, where he returned three punts and two kickoffs for touchdowns.
With the promise of Mortimer, the 2022 recruiting class from the State of Florida moves from 12th to 9th place in the country. FSU continues to be the No. 1 recruitment class at the Atlantic Coast Conference.
