Would you abandon OnePlus if ColorOS were worldwide? [Poll]

OnePlus has just announced that some of its current devices and its upcoming OnePlus 9 will be transferred from the internal HydrogenOS to Oppo’s ColorOS, at least in China. This made us wonder: how much of the value of a OnePlus smartphone depends on its software? Would you change to something else And if Has OnePlus adopted ColorOS worldwide?

ColorOS is a cover on Android that is used on Oppo smartphones, like the Find X3 Pro that we tested recently. Although designed for China, the skin is used on the company’s global smartphones with some tweaks that, honestly, make the experience very good overall.

I spent some time with Find X3 Pro earlier this month and, in addition to some peculiarities with notifications and the initial experience, I was very happy to use it. To quote me:

Oppo’s ColorOS came to long way, but it is still a heavy and somewhat clumsy skin. It reminds me of Samsung, before the OneUI era, but after the worst of TouchWiz. ColorOS in its current form is not offensively bad, but it is also not great. The resources are there. Oppo’s designs are honestly not bad. It’s very confusing.

Moving on to OnePlus, however, the experience is very different. OxygenOS has long been praised by fans for staying true to Android’s standard design, but with some additional customization features welcome, although in recent years this has changed. In 2020, OnePlus took advantage of Android 11 to change OxygenOS in some important ways, making it much like Samsung’s OneUI. It was received with some hatred by many fans.

OnePlus has already said that, at this point, the company has no plans to abandon OxygenOS. This cover will still be used on OnePlus smartphones sold globally, with only phones sold in China shifting to the much heavier skin of the Oppo. The company explains:

For all of our users outside mainland China, we will continue to use OxygenOS for global devices in the future and remain committed to providing a fast and smooth experience with OxygenOS.

Yet, And if The OnePlus has already changed its mind, would that change yours? Would you switch to OnePlus if they switched to a heavier skin like ColorOS, assuming it doesn’t change the current hardware and pricing strategies for OnePlus devices? Vote in the poll below and, if you wish, leave a comment explaining your choice!
