Even though Cattrall had agreed to reprise his role as Samantha Jones, not all fans are here for the proposed reboot. Some fear that a reboot of the classic HBO series could ruin their magic. The concerns are valid when you consider how badly Sex and the City 2, a second film based on the series, was received.

In 2019, Parker visited Entertainment Tonight and was open about how she would be willing to repeat her role as Carrie Bradshaw. She stopped close to calling it a full restart, however. Parker’s comments in 2019 appear to be in line with what HBO Max planned. The limited run series would be more of a revisit than a full restart of the show.
Not much is known about the restart rumor
So far, news about the reboot is extremely limited. On December 23, Deadline reported that HBO Max was ready to proceed with several reboots, including Sex and the City. Furthermore, little else is known. The publication did not reveal a proposed plot. The timeline for the series to return to radio waves was also not released.
One thing is certain, however. It is extremely unlikely that Cattrall will return. The famous actor talked about having no desire to go back to Sex and the City, claiming that she overcame her character a long time ago. According to Vanity Fair, she expressed interest in seeing a different actor take on the role. Still, there is no official word on how the team will handle Samantha’s absence or whether it will have to deal with it.

Whether Cattrall puts his Manolos on for another project or not, some fans fear that a reboot of the series could destroy the magic of their original execution. Sex and the City it was innovative when it first aired. The program is considered the first series aimed at women that showed women talking openly about sex and dating on television. For all your good qualities, Sex and the City it was problematic in many ways and several key elements did not age exactly well.
