Woody Allen, Soon-Yi Previn slam doc HBO where Dylan Farrow details the alleged abuse as ‘hatchet’

Woody Allen and Soon-Yi Previn spoke after the premiere of the HBO documentary series “Allen v. Farrow” about their adopted daughter’s sexual abuse allegations.

Dylan Farrow, 35, his mother Mia Farrow, 76, and his brother Ronan Farrow, 33, participate in the documentary series, which explores the first accusations made against the Oscar winner, 85, during his separation from Mia in 1992. Allen denied the charges for almost 30 years and Mia refused to press charges at the time.

After the premiere episode of the four-part series, Allen and Soon-Yi released a statement to Fox News further denying the charges against him and questioning the legitimacy of the HBO project.

“These documentary filmmakers had no interest in the truth. Instead, they spent years surreptitiously collaborating with the Farrows and their facilitators to assemble an ax full of lies,” the statement said. “Woody and Soon-Yi were approached less than two months ago and had only a few days to respond. ‘Of course, they refused to do so. “

The statement continues: “As has been known for decades, these claims are categorically false. Several agencies investigated them at the time and found that, regardless of what Dylan Farrow may have been led to believe, absolutely no abuse has happened. It is sad It is not surprising that the broadcaster that will broadcast this is HBO – which has a production deal and a commercial relationship with Ronan Farrow. While this low quality news can gain attention, it does not change the facts. “

In the first episode, Dylan does not go into specific details about the abuse she claims to have suffered from her foster father as a child. However, she reiterates statements she made earlier in a 2014 open letter published by the New York Times. According to Yahoo Entertainment, she claims that Allen chased her relentlessly when he was in her apartment, allegedly inducing her into inappropriate situations.

“I have memories of going to bed with him. He was in his underwear, and I was in his underwear, hugging, ”she says. “I remember his breath on me. He just wrapped his body around me, very intimately.”

Although she mentioned earlier that Allen allegedly stuck his thumb in her mouth, she gave more details in “Allen v. Farrow”.

Mia and Allen started a relationship in 1980 that lasted more than a decade. At the time, she was already a mother of seven children. In the series, Mia explains that Allen did not want to be a father, which is one of the reasons why they maintained separate residences during the relationship. However, she says she approached him about adopting a child together, to which he was still reluctant.

“He said that if I wanted to do that I wouldn’t ruin the relationship, but that he didn’t want to have anything to do with it,” she says on docuseries (via People). “I thought, ‘This is fair.’ He knew the type of child I adopted, all from different countries with different needs. He said: ‘I could be more kindly predisposed if I were a little blond girl.’ I thought if he cared about it, I should try to find a little girl like that and maybe he loves her. I ended up with a little blond girl and that was baby Dylan. “

After adopting Dylan, Mia and Allen conceived Ronan. Shortly after that, Dylan says the abuse started. Mia claims that she also noticed a change in Allen’s approach to children at that time.

“Over time, what has become [that] Was there no one but the two, “says Mia at the doctor.” He didn’t want to see the other kids, he wanted to see her. She started to run away from him. She started to lock herself in the bathrooms. “

Elsewhere in the premiere episode, Mia blames herself for not seeing the signs and allowing Allen to enter her home.

“This is the biggest regret of my life, that I was not perceptive enough. It is my fault,” she says. “I brought this guy to my family. There is nothing I can do to get this out.”

“I understand why people can’t believe it, because who on Earth could believe that about Woody Allen?” Mia adds. “I couldn’t believe it. I couldn’t believe it. Everyone admired Woody very much, loved him and so did I.”

After the premiere of the first episode, Ronan supported his sister by sharing a photo of the two together on Instagram with the caption, “My sister’s pride”.

Allen would eventually marry Soon-Yi, noting in his 2020 book “Apropos of Nothing” that he understands why the relationship has angered his ex, but says he does not regret his relationship with the woman who is 35 years younger.
