‘Wonder Woman’: Pedro Pascal recalls role in NBC superhero pilot

Before heading the Black Gold Cooperative in the recently launched Wonder Woman 1984, Pedro Pascal befriended the Amazon princess in the famous ill-fated NBC pilot, starring Adrianne Palicki.

Getting an excellent role in the busy TV project of 2011 “was like a dream come true,” Pascal told our sister site Variety.

The pilot written by David E. Kelley starred Palicki as Wonder Woman, also known as CEO of Themyscira Industries, Diana Themyscira, also known as Diana Prince (yes, she had two alter egos, oof). Justin Bruening (All my children) co-starred as Steve Trevor, an Army veterinarian who now works in the Justice Department, while Elizabeth Hurley (The Royals) interpreted the nemesis Veronica Cale.

Pascal, whose main TV credits at that time included bows in The good wife and FX’s Lights off, played Ed Indelicato, a LAPD detective who related to the city’s local superhero.

“It was like a dream come true”, the star of The Mandalorian remembered by Variety. “David E. Kelley’s influence on television when I had just finished college was so great, and I watched every episode of [Palicki’]s Friday Night Lights. I also thought it was good or not, it would definitely be chosen. It would change my financial situation significantly, even if it was half a season before it was canceled. But he wasn’t even caught. ”

As for whether Wonder Woman 1984 Helmer Patty Jenkins knew of his previous encounter with the Amazon princess at the time he was cast as one of the two villains in the sequel, Max Lord, he was unsure, shrugging, “They must have known or didn’t care.”

Shortly after, NBC cut the bait on his Wonder Woman series, TVLine asked network chief Robert Greenblatt about the decision. “With that kind of audience, you have to do these things absolutely right; there is no room for error. At the end of the day, I didn’t think we had done that, ”he explained. “The action is incredible. Adrianne Palicki is beautiful. Elizabeth Hurley is fantastic. It is like anything creative – there will be people who like it or not. “
