Wonder Woman 1984 remains in line with what was previously established at the DCEU, explaining Diana Batman V’s Superman: Dawn of Justice’s confused line.
Wonder Woman 1984 adequately explains Diana’s controversial dialogue in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Debuting in the 2016 Zack Snyder film, Princess Themysciran has been in four DCEU films so far, including her second solo installment, which sees her in the 1980s. Directed by Patty Jenkins, the sequel reveals more about Diana’s life throughout from the decades before she joined Batman and Superman’s fight against Doomsday in the modern era.
The arc of the Amazon at DCEU has been going on for several decades, which is unique to the character. After its introduction in Batman x Superman, your 2017 origins film, Wonder Woman, traced his first foray into the human world during World War I after his chance encounter with Steve Trevor after he appeared on the beaches of Diana’s homeland, Themyscira. Since Wonder Woman had the longest period as a superhero on DCEU’s current list of heroes, filmmakers need to be more careful in drafting their narrative, as the details can be easily mixed, causing plot problems. One of the most annoying is Batman x Superman, where a particular dialogue implies that she has turned her back on humanity, which is inconsistent with what has been seen from her bow so far. Fortunately, Wonder Woman 1984 illuminates this issue, clarifying that it is not an inconsistency.
Wonder Woman Says She Withdrew From Humanity
After his initial encounter at the Lex Luthor party, Bruce Wayne learned about Diana’s superhero persona as Wonder Woman after finding Luther’s files, which included information for each future Justice League member. Her first instinct was to stay as far away from Bruce as possible, wanting to remain anonymous, but her commitment to the greater good motivated Diana to eventually join Batman and Superman’s fight against Doomsday in Metropolis, which resulted in Superman’s death after a sacrifice piece. At the end of the film, realizing that her secret was safe with Bruce, since he also had an alter ego, she opened up a little about her life in the past, why she didn’t speak up and fought openly with the bandits to protect people. “A hundred years ago, I moved away from humanity; of a century of horrors … Men have made a world where being together is impossible, ” she explained. This line caused some confusion after the first Wonder Woman film came out as Diana did not seem the type to turn her back on humanity; in fact, she displayed an unshakable faith that there are good things in people.
Said that, Wonder Woman 1984 makes it clear that this particular dialog box has been misinterpreted. Diana said she left “from a century of horrors” and not “for a century,” which may mean that she simply detached herself from humanity, not necessarily for how long. After her first real friends died slowly of old age, as she remained the same, she probably chose to be alone instead of going through the pain of losing someone she cared for in the future. The sequel highlights this by showing black and white photos of his former allies in his apartment, some of Steve and one of an old Etta Candy. Then she Batman x Superman The line does not necessarily mean that DCEU’s Wonder Woman abandoned her responsibility as a superhero – remaining true to the morals that motivated her in the first place to leave Themyscira.
Diana is a hero in 1984’s Wonder Woman, but it’s still a secret (mostly)
The idea that Diana just moved away from humanity and not from her role as Wonder Woman confirms in Wonder Woman 1984. As a result, she is still very active as a superhero, leading a double life as a Smithsonian employee during the day. Although she remains committed to her cause, the film also makes it clear that Diana operates anonymously. In the opening sequence, she saves a woman in a rush by quickly pushing a laden car away from the unconscious woman. Diana chose to do this instead of getting the woman out of the way, which is certainly a lot easier to do, but it would draw more attention to her, effectively blowing up her cover.
Later, during a mall robbery, she made sure to disable the area’s CCTV cameras before going after the perpetrators. Although several onlookers saw it in action, there was no photographic evidence of its operation or evidence that it happened. This makes it difficult to verify her identity, as evidenced by the subsequent news broadcast, which just called her “a mysterious female savior.” After saying goodbye to Steve in Washington, she reveals herself to the crowd as Wonder Woman flies for the first time, but people were too busy running and panicking at the imminent destruction of a potential nuclear war to pay attention to her.
Why Wonder Woman has not yet revealed herself to the world
At the contemporary DCEU, Diana continued to operate stealthily as Wonder Woman, as seen in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and also Justice League. That means that even after Wonder Woman 1984, she refused to make any personal connections with other people. In fact, she was reluctant to do this, even with Bruce, but she had no choice in the matter after she realized that a potentially bigger threat than Steppenwolf and Lex Luthor was coming to Darkseid.
In retrospect, it makes a lot more sense that she wanted to live in isolation afterwards Wonder Woman 1984; losing Steve again was a stark reminder of how painful it is to say goodbye to the people she really cares about. So, instead of being subject to this vulnerability, this experience only reinforced the idea that it is better to be alone. This could potentially change in the future, however. Between Diana voluntarily associating with other heroes through the Justice League and Wonder Woman 3 potentially set in the modern DCEU, there’s a good chance that it could finally reveal itself to the world.
