It may not come as a surprise to fans of modern superheroes – but in the strange story of Wonder Woman, her standard set of powers is not so standard. Did you know that she used to ride a kangaroo?

Here’s how Wonder Woman 1984The biggest leap in life is actually stepping on a comic book base.

Inside Wonder Woman 184, Wonder Woman learns to fly! The princess of the Amazon gets a major upgrade by jumping, running, looping and flying on an invisible plane around the world.

But it does so in a particularly unexpected way. Just … doing this. With a little help from Steve Trevor describing how a skillfully designed plane flies through the air, Diana does the same with her body in an almost human way. There is?

The flight of Wonder Woman returns to the history of comics

For a superhero of her stature, Wonder Woman’s powers are strangely resistant to coding. Of course, Superman went through some periods of increased power, when he could do things like “superinvention”, “super ventriloquism” or “yeeting back in time by accident”. But nowadays it is generally accepted that he is strong and bulletproof, can fly and has laser eyes, frozen breathing, x-ray vision and keen senses.

Wonder Woman is super strong and super durable, but not bulletproof – otherwise, why would she need to make the armband? – and is one of the greatest fighters in the world with a lot of charisma to boot. But, in addition, it gets cloudy. At various points in her history, she was also able to use a “mental radio” as if she were telepathic, received the ability to speak to animals by the goddess Artemis, can travel to different dimensions meditating or can speak a lot of language with ease.

And Wonder Woman was not always able to fly. This is obvious when you think about it for a second. Why would she need an invisible jet if she could fly? Flight was not as closely associated with superheroes now as it was when it was created in 1942. Even Superman couldn’t fly at first – that’s where the phrase “jump high buildings with a single jump” comes from.

For a long time, an invisible plane or jet served Wonder Woman very well. Unassisted escape did not become one of his basic powers until 1987, when writer / artist George Pérez began a lasting resumption of his origin story. Now, with the blessing of the god Hermes, Diana could fly high in the sky with just a few winged sandals.

But it was not the first time that she learned to fly. In the 1970s, Wonder Woman lost all of her powers for a period (short, but memorable and infamous) and, when they were restored, she also rediscovered an ancient Amazonian technique. She learned to walk in drafts for short distances. In other words, she discovered how to fly like an airplane without having an airplane-shaped body.

Which is exactly how it happens in Wonder Woman 1984, as strange as it may have looked on the screen. But you know what they say: fish need to swim, Amazons need to fly.
