NCAA Womens Basketball: South Carolina at Connecticut
Freshman Paige Bueckers scored 31 points when Connecticut’s No. 2 defeated South Carolina’s No. 1 63-59 in overtime on Monday night in a battle for the powers of non-conference women’s basketball in Storrs, Connecticut.
The Huskies (14-1) improved to 9-0 this season at the Gampel Pavilion and 9-1 at all times against the Gamecocks.
Bueckers scored the game’s 13 final points for the Huskies, including all nine in overtime. Her jump with 46 seconds remaining gave UConn a one point lead, and she added 3 points with 10.8 seconds to finish. Bueckers scored 30 or more points for the third game in a row.
South Carolina (15-2), who beat UConn by 18 points last season in Columbia, SC, had a 12-game winning streak burst. Aliyah led the Gamecocks with 17 points and 15 rebounds.
No. 10 Arizona 79, No. 11 Oregon 59
In Eugene, Oregon, Cate Reese collected 25 points from 11 of 14 shots when the Wildcats won their second double-digit win over the Ducks this season. Arizona (12-2, 10-2 Pac-12) retired in the third quarter, overtaking Oregon by 27-14 to establish a 60-46 lead. Nyara Sabally led the Ducks (12-4, 9-4) with 17 points.
