Women’s College Golf Team of the Week: South Carolina

South Carolina women threatened to get away with the Moon Golf Invitational title in its first start of the spring season last week. Gamecocks had 30 fewer in the middle of the third round at the Duran Golf Club in Melbourne, Florida, and finally finished 54 holes 24 below, six strokes ahead of second-placed LSU.

Gamecocks attract the experience of three fifth-year veterans and, at the Moon Golf event, an experienced veteran led the way. Pauline Roussin-Bouchard is fourth in the world ranking for amateur golf. She played the first 45 holes in 15 under before returning home with two final bogeys. Still, Roussin-Bouchard won the individual title.

When necessary, Roussin-Bouchard’s teammates came forward to fill the scoring gap. Their final round 73 did not even count towards the team total in the final round.

The victory was really a team effort.

“Watching others just get into this situation was exactly what I was looking for,” said coach Kalen Anderson. “This is what will really help us, I think, in late spring.”
