COLUMBIA, SC – Alabama led 4/3 in South Carolina at the break, but South Carolina would beat Crimson Tide in the second half in the 87-63 decision on Sunday at the Colonial Life Arena. With the defeat, Alabama is 12-4 overall and 5-4 against opponents of the Southeast Conference, while the Gamecocks improve to 14-1 in the season and 9-0 in the league game.
Jordan Lewis led offensively for Tide, scoring 19 points in his 39 minutes of action. It was accompanied in two digits by Jasmine Walker (15) and Megan Abrams (10). Destiny rice he got nine points, the biggest of them against a SEC team in his career, in 22 minutes off the bench. Ariyah Copeland had seven rebounds for the team, while she and Walker recorded two blocks each in the game.
Alabama had a 16-8 lead in the middle of the first quarter, before South Carolina scored the next nine in a row. A tray of Hannah Barber at the 1:56 mark he put Tide back on top, however, the Gamecocks managed the final six points to lead 26-21 at the end of the first.
South Carolina advanced by seven at the start of the second, but Alabama would eventually outperform the Gamecocks by 20-14 at the 10:00 break to lead 41-40 at the break.
South Carolina came out fast in the third, scoring 15 of the first 20 points and won their first double-digit lead in the game at 4:46 of a three by Zia Cooke. A Lewis layup with 13 seconds to go cut the lead to eight, however Cooke would put one more for the Gamecocks to give them a 64-54 lead to close the third.
South Carolina continued to beat Alabama in the final stage, adding most of their points on the free throw line.
