Woman survives after vehicle passes over San Francisco beach cliff

A woman survived after her vehicle fell on a cliff off a San Francisco beach and landed on the sand below, officials said on Saturday.

The woman, the only person in the vehicle, was taken to a trauma center in serious condition after the rescue on Christmas Day, Lt. Jonathan Baxter of the San Francisco Fire Department said in an email.

A cliff rescue team responded after the vehicle ended up on the beach, the department said through testimonials and photos on Twitter. A red “surf rescue” truck was used to get it out of the sand.

The incident occurred in Fort Funston, a coastal land within the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy.

The woman was not identified by authorities, who were trying to determine why the vehicle fell off the cliff.
