WASHINGTON (FOX 5 DC) – A woman who was shot and killed after pro-Trump protesters attacked the United States Capitol building on Wednesday was identified as a 14-year Air Force veteran, Ashli Babbit of San Diego.
DC police chief Robert Contee confirmed on Wednesday that Babbit was shot by a Capitol police officer. An internal investigation is underway.

Lindsay Watts of FOX 5 spoke to Babbit’s mother-in-law on Wednesday night.
“I really don’t know why she decided to do this,” Babbit’s mother-in-law told Watts.
Babbit and her husband had a business in San Diego. Her husband did not go to DC, reports Watts.

The shooting was reported shortly after 3 pm, when the situation got worse inside and outside the Capitol building, when Congress started counting the votes of the Electoral College.
Babbit was later pronounced dead after being transported to a local hospital in critical condition.
