Woman files multi-million dollar personal injury lawsuit against Conor McGregor, says lawyer

A woman filed a multimillion-dollar lawsuit against UFC superstar Conor McGregor for alleged personal injury, her lawyer confirmed to ESPN on Tuesday.

Dave Coleman, the woman’s lawyer, said the lawsuit, about events that allegedly took place in 2018, was opened on Monday at the High Court in Dublin, Ireland. In addition, the woman’s mother has also filed a lawsuit against McGregor, Coleman said, in a lesser lawsuit. The lawyer did not provide additional details about the case. According to the Independent, which first reported the lawsuit, a McGregor associate is listed as a co-defendant.

“The matter is before the court,” said Coleman.

This situation was the subject of an investigation by An Garda Síochána, the national police service of the Republic of Ireland, but there were no charges against McGregor and McGregor denied any wrongdoing, the Independent reported.

“After an exhaustive investigation conducted by Gardaí which, in addition to interviews with the plaintiff, included interviews with various sources, obtaining testimony from witnesses, examining footage on a closed circuit and the cooperation of Conor McGregor, these claims were categorically rejected,” McGregor spokesman Karen Kessler said in a statement. “The plaintiff knows that the facts contradict the claims in this case. Mr. McGregor will challenge any complaints and is confident that justice will prevail.”

McGregor, one of the most popular athletes in the world, returns to the Octagon in the main fight against Dustin Poirier at UFC 257 on Saturday in Abu Dhabi. It will be McGregor’s first fight since UFC 246 in January 2020. When questioned, Coleman said that “there was no specific reason” for the moment when the lawsuit was filed.

The New York Times reported in 2019 that McGregor has been the subject of two sexual assault investigations, although the charges have not been filed and it is not clear whether those investigations are still open.

McGregor has had several disagreements with the law over the years. He was arrested in Brooklyn after throwing a doll on a UFC bus after a media day in 2018 and was fined 1,000 euros in Dublin court in 2019 for punching a man in the face in a bar, an attack that was recorded in video.

ESPN’s Ariel Helwani contributed to this report.
