Woman dies after receiving COVID-19 vaccine at Cal Poly Pomona; no link to the suspicious shot

POMONA, Calif. (KABC) – A 78-year-old woman died after receiving the Pfizer vaccine in Cal Poly Pomona, but her death is unrelated to the shooting, according to authorities.

The woman received the injection on Friday afternoon and was being watched when she began to complain of discomfort and loss of consciousness, according to a statement from Dr. Michael E. Morris, director of the southern COVID-19 vaccination program. California’s Kaiser Permanente, which manages the site.

The paramedics present assisted the woman “but she could not be revived”.

“The cause of her death has not been determined; however, there were no signs or symptoms of a severe allergic or anaphylactic reaction,” Morris said in the statement.

The woman’s family said she had a history of heart disease. Her husband, 57, also received the vaccine and continues to ask people to get the vaccine, adding that he plans to take the second dose in a few weeks.

Kaiser said the site will remain open and vaccines will continue as long as supplies are available.

“On behalf of everyone involved at the vaccine site, led by Kaiser Permanente, we extend our sincere condolences to her family,” said Morris.
