Woman, 18, fatally shot while listening to music in a car in East Valley

An 18-year-old woman is dead after someone opened fire from the back seat of a crowded vehicle in an apartment complex in eastern Las Vegas, police said Monday night.

Metropolitan Police Department homicide lieutenant Ray Spencer said it happened shortly after 8:20 pm in the parking lot of Corona del Sol apartments, located at 4700 E. Charleston Boulevard, near Lamb Boulevard.

It is not clear whether the shot was accidental or intentional, Spencer said.

“At the moment, we don’t know what led to the shooting,” he said, adding that detectives are investigating both possibilities.

There were six people in the vehicle at the time of the shooting, said Spencer – a mix of teenagers and young people listening to music. The young woman was taken to the trauma unit at the University Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.

The detectives spoke to two of the people in the vehicle, but three others fled the scene: a young woman and two boys, Spencer said.

No other information was immediately available.
