Cora Vides was charged at Santa Barbara County prison on suspicion of attempted murder, police spokesman Anthony Wagner told Noozhawk.

Vides, described in prison records as a student, remained in custody on Monday afternoon, on bail set at $ 1 million, according to the Sheriff’s Department.

The adult victim, whose name has not been released, suffered “non-fatal but very serious injuries,” said Wagner, and was being treated at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital.

He said police officers responded to the hospital and the “crime scene” at block 600 on Avenida Roberto, a block east of Meigs Road, in a residential neighborhood north of Cliff Drive.

Wagner said he could not provide additional details about the victim, including sex. However, sources told Noozhawk that the victim is a young woman and also a student.

“This was an isolated incident,” said Wagner, “and there does not appear to be any immediate threat to the public.”

Monday was the Presidents’ Day holiday, so no criminal complaints were filed in the case, according to the prosecutor.
