WNBA Star Candace Parker upgrades to new, modern farmhouse

In 2018, professional basketball superstar Candace Parker and her ex-husband Sheldon Williams sold their marital home in Encino for $ 3.8 million, sharing the profits and following their own real estate paths. But the WNBA baller has recovered well; earlier this month, she disbursed $ 4 million for a larger, newer and generally more impressive property in the Tarzana community in the San Fernando Valley.

Built this year on the speculation of a local developer, the nearly half-acre property is on a quiet street, behind tall orange gates. The large parking lot has space for at least half a dozen cars and there is a three-car garage for additional parking, plus small patches of grass and native landscaping to break the concrete jungle.

Inside the modern, elegant farmhouse, there is an open concept floor plan with wide plank wood floors and a relatively vibrant color scheme that incorporates shades of white, gray and warm acorn. Immediately to the right of the entrance is the living room equipped with a fireplace; in addition, a central corridor passes through a black and gold office to a large huge room, where there is a formal dining area served by a bar, a family room with another fireplace and lighted inlays, and a patio, accessible through doors sliding glass, which offers its own outdoor fireplace.

With state-of-the-art Thermador appliances and acres of quartzite countertops, the kitchen is prepared to impress and can easily accommodate large events, allowing the COVID-19. Guests can chat at the informal breakfast counter, enjoy canapés in the sunny pantry or relax in the sunny backyard – easily accessible through the disappearing glass walls. Outside there are patios for al fresco dining, a large line prepared for Fido’s games, a sparkling salt water pool with built-in spa and Baja shelf, and a house with an adjacent pool and half-court basketball court, of course.

When his guests get very rowdy, Parker can retire to any of the 6,300 square foot mansion’s five private rooms, all with their own bathrooms. The upstairs master suite is particularly titanic, with a marble fireplace, a showroom that is larger than many boutiques and a spa-style bathroom with a soaking tub and one of the largest showers on this side of Mulholland, complete with nothing less than three showers. Downstairs, there is also a soundproof cinema with a capacity for 10 people, while a sophisticated Control4 home automation system with security cameras will prevent any unwanted intruders from entering the fun.

Parker, 34, was the first overall choice in the 2008 WNBA draft, and she played for the Los Angeles Sparks throughout her professional career. In the past decade, she has become a household name, amassing a vast treasure trove of praise, including two MVP awards, a WNBA championship and two Olympic gold medals. The 6’4 ″ native of Naperville, Illinois, also has a number of lucrative sponsorship deals with companies like Adidas and Gatorade that helped make her perhaps the highest paid player in the entire WNBA squad.

Lillian Wall, of Wall Street Properties, held the listing; Stephen Sweeney and Josh Altman of the Altman Brothers Team in Douglas Elliman represented Parker.
