More than 80 years after the premiere of the original film, Hollywood is planning a remake of “The Wizard of Oz”.
Nicole Kassell, who will direct the film New Line Cinema, seemed well aware that she would be dealing with a classic story loved by millions.
“Although the 1939 musical is part of my DNA, I am excited and humble about the responsibility to reimagine such a legendary tale,” said Kassell, according to Variety. “The opportunity to examine the original themes – the search for courage, love, wisdom and home – seems more timely and urgent than ever.

“These are deeply iconic shoes to fill,” she added, “and I look forward to dancing alongside these childhood heroes as we pave a newly minted yellow brick road!”
But Kassell’s version will not be musical, Billboard said. New Line is calling this a “new version” and a “reimagination” of history, the report said.
“The Wizard of Oz” was based on L. Frank Baum’s children’s story, “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz”, and the classic 1939 film starring Judy Garland as Dorothy, Ray Bolger as the Scarecrow, Margaret Hamilton as the Wicked Witch and others.
Efforts to remake or reimagine the story included the 1970s Broadway show “The Wiz”, which later became a film starring Diana Ross and Michael Jackson.
Later, the hit show “Wicked” on Broadway came.

In 2013, James Franco starred in a prequel called “Oz the Great and Powerful”.
Other efforts have been far less successful, according to the New York Post.
Failures included “The Wonderful Land of Oz,” in the 1970s and “Return to Oz,” in 1985, the report said.
