MADISON, Wisconsin – Walgreens’ select locations in Wisconsin will begin providing COVID-19 vaccines as part of the Federal Retail Pharmacy Program, the Wisconsin Department of Health Services announced on Thursday.

The program launched this week and aims to accelerate vaccination efforts in underserved communities.

“This partnership is another tool to support the excellent work that local public health is doing in our communities,” said Governor Tony Evers in a press release.

The number of COVID-19 vaccines available is still limited across the country, so Wisconsin DHS says the program will start small and expand as the supply increases. The program will begin with the participation of a total of 178 Walgreens stores across the state.

DHS says the vaccines being distributed to Walgreens will be in addition to the number of vaccines currently distributed to Wisconsin. Another 17,800 doses of Moderna vaccine will be sent to Walgreens’ 178 units.

Anyone eligible for the vaccine can schedule an appointment through the Walgreens website.

People currently eligible for the vaccine include frontline healthcare professionals, residents of qualified wards and long-term care facilities, police and fire officials, correctional officers, and adults 65 and older.
