Deadline confirmed with sources close to the production that the TBS program competitor needed medical attention after completing the course and was attended by medical professionals before paramedics were called and the competitor was taken to the hospital, where he later died.

The incident occurred on Wednesday at the venue in Santa Clarita, CA.

The program is being presented by John Cena (The Suicide Squad) and Nicole Byer (You got it!) with Camille Kostek (I feel beautiful) as the host entrenched in the field.

The restart was requested by the WarnerMedia cable network in April, with Endemol Shine North America producing a 20-episode airing.

The series was previously shown for seven seasons and 130 episodes on ABC between 2008 and 2014. Created by Matt Kunitz and Scott Larsen, the series, which was originally filmed at Sable Ranch in Santa Clarita, has become a major international hit with local versions in more than 30 territories, including the United Kingdom and Germany.

The obstacle course competition has returned with new format twists. Each game was designed in three rounds and now features a three-stage obstacle course, consisting of multiple strategies and decision points designed to further challenge and erode competitors’ stamina. The big red balls, an iconic landmark of the show, are also back.

“We are devastated to hear of his passing and our deepest condolences go out to the family,” said a TBS spokeswoman.

“We offer our most sincere condolences to the family and our thoughts are with them right now,” added an Endemol spokesman Shine North America.
