AN Destroy competitor who died last fall after completing the television obstacle course succumbed to a heart attack, according to medical officials.
Michael Paredes, 38, suffered a medical emergency on the Santa Clarita set of the TBS program on November 18. He was treated by a local medical team before being taken to the hospital. He died the next day.
Paredes suffered a heart attack due to undetected coronary artery disease, according to the report, cited by NBC News. The toxicology report showed that Parades had no drugs or alcohol in his system when he died.
Paredes, according to the cited report, had successfully completed two of the Destroy obstacles before falling into the third. He struggled to swim to the side of the pool and had to be pulled and placed in a wheelchair when he lost consciousness. CPR was performed before being taken to Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital, where he was pronounced dead the next day.
All contestants undergo a medical examination before being released to participate in the show.
