Winter storms in Texas: at least 111 people died in the winter storm that hit Texas in February, more than 60 compared to 3 weeks ago

The agency reported the state total on Thursday in its weekly report of deaths related to winter storms.

About 390,000 Texans are still under warming water from the winter storm

The deaths included in Thursday’s report occurred between February 11 and March 5 and most deaths reported to the DSHS were associated with hypothermia, the agency said.

“There were also several deaths caused by motor vehicle accidents, carbon monoxide poisoning, failure of medical equipment, aggravation of chronic diseases, lack of oxygen at home, falls and fires,” says the report.

The news comes more than a month after a strong winter storm hit the region. Texas, commonly known for its heat, struggled to cope with the storm because of widespread power cuts and water supply disruptions that left thousands of people freezing for weeks.
As of Wednesday, there were still 127 state residents under notification of boiling water, according to the Texas Environmental Quality Commission.
