A change in the storm system that hits Minnesota on Sunday will bring larger amounts to an area west and north of the Twin Cities subway.
The National Weather Service has issued a series of winter storm warnings for counties including Stearns, Sherburne, Chippewa, Kandiyohi and Meeker, where the total snowfall on Sunday can exceed 6 inches.
In fact, some parts of the state have already seen a large dump in a short period.

This marks a significant change since Saturday’s predictions, when parts of rural southwestern Minnesota were expected to see the largest numbers, and places like St. Cloud should only be up to two inches.
Within the narrow strip of snow, there will be places where snow falls at a rate of 1-2 inches per hour, which can cause visibility problems on the roads.
As for the twin cities, the NWS says the system has slowed down, which has delayed storm times, so the heavier one is arriving later in the morning than expected.
The discussion of the NWS forecast suggests that a stronger jet stream could lead to heavier snow in the metropolitan area, but the overall forecast remains at 2-4 inches for now.
The NWS notes that the system “continues to baffle and frustrate” meteorologists, with BMTN’s own Sven Sundgaard observing on Friday that the weekend system was difficult to predict.
