The pink area is the newly issued Winter Storm Alert area and includes Ann Arbor, Detroit, Oakland County, Flint, the entire Thumb, except Tuscola County, and the southern border counties.

The effective time of the Winter Storm Alert offers a good idea of the period of heavy snow. The notice is in effect from 6:00 pm to noon on Tuesday. The alert area north of Genesee County and the western parts of Huron and Lapeer counties can accommodate 5 to 8 inches of snow. Southeast Lower, including Ann Arbor and Detroit, can plan with 6 to 9 inches of snow.

So get ready for some good old heavy snow in February. It is not an extreme snowfall, but it will be dangerous to drive tonight and Tuesday morning.
