Winter storm passing through Wisconsin. Here’s what to expect!

The most widespread winter storm of the season so far is moving across southern Wisconsin. The alert days are forecast today Wednesday morning.

Tonight it will be cloudy and windy, with a period of moderate to heavy snow, which can drop from 2.5 to 5 centimeters per hour at times. This, combined with gusts of wind, will lead to limited visibility and treacherous road conditions. The heaviest snow probably falls between 8 pm and midnight.

Temperatures will remain almost stable at around 30 degrees overnight. Wednesday will be predominantly cloudy, with wind and getting colder with light snow, possibly mixed with cold drizzle and drizzle in the morning decreasing to gusts in the afternoon. Additional small accumulations of snow are possible in the morning. The total snowfall for the storm is expected to be 4 to 9 ″ across much of south-central Wisconsin, with the heaviest totals south and west of Dane County.

As the snow will be wet and heavy, combined with gusts of wind and low visibility, large impacts are expected. In addition, clearly snow will be a challenge, as heavy, wet snow is more difficult to remove and can often obstruct snow blowers. Expect ice conditions for hikers.
